Family History Researcher in England and Wales

Parish Registers, Military Records at Kew, Newspapers and
general family history research

Parish Registers, 16th Century - 20th century

These records are perhaps the number one source - along with Wills - for pre 1837 registration English and Welsh family history, but one cannot begin to search through baptisms, marriages and burials unless a parish or village is provided. Also researchers unused to English records should note that baptisms, pre 1837 marriages and burials provide scanter information than their civil registration counterparts. Burials post 1852 are likely to have taken place at a municipal cemetery rather than a church.
It is recommended that you discuss your needs FIRST before ordering research.

Miscellaneous Research at the PRO, Kew

As well as the Military Records listed below, the Public Record Office holds the following classes of records: Non-conformist registers for England and Wales, Metropolitan Police archives, Tax Records (Lay Subsidy Rolls to name one), Passport Indexes, Oaths of Allegiance, State Papers and Patent Rolls etc. Changes of Name, some Passenger Lists (late 19th Century), Home Office and Foreign Office papers, Maps, the Criminal Register and the archives of the Board of Trade. There are many other classes.

Army and Naval Records

These are housed at the Public Record Office, Kew. There are numerous classes and researchers trying to trace individuals whether they were in the Militia, regular Army (all ranks), Navy, Marines or Merchant Navy should enquire first, use the On-line Request Form. If however you have a pretty good idea of what class of record you need, consult the price table below. The price here is for a Service persons complete set of Papers which can include: Attestations/Discharge, Pensions, Medal Rolls, War Diaries etc. I will research all of these classes for the said amount if viable.

Newspapers

The Newspaper Library at Colindale has the largest collection of archived newspapers and periodicals in the world both National and International. Researchers should have a very good idea of the date of the event they are looking for, though many newspapers have been indexed. I can search indexes for you as well as the newspapers themselves.
